Galle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located on the southern coast of Sri Lanka. First conquered by the Portuguese in the late 16th century, Galle was quickly captured by the Dutch in the 17th century. It then became a spectacular trading port for over 200 years.
The 300-year-old Dutch atmosphere is still very close to the castle among its many historic buildings. Today the city has grown significantly and has spread to surrounding areas.
