Kitulgala

Kitulgala is a small town in western Sri Lanka that is famous for exciting water sports, such as whitewater rafting.

It is located in a tropical rain forest, and it is one of the wettest places in the world. it gets rainy in both rainy seasons This heavy rainfall gives the region its lush greenery, beautiful mountains and impressive scenery.

Kitulgala is probably best known as the place where David Lean recorded the Academy Award-winning Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) foundations.

The river leads to the Kitulgala Forest Reserve, which offers excellent bird watching and hiking in the foothills of the lowlands. Among the many birds that can be seen here are the gray hornbill, the yellow-fronted barbet, and various kingfishers.

Kitulgala is located approximately 83km from Colombo International Airport about 95 km from Colombo, on some of the main routes from Colombo to Hatton, Nuwara Eliya and other mountainous areas.
