2 - Jeep safari in Minneriya national park

The Mineriya Jeep Safari is one of the most popular activities among G travellers visiting Sri Lanka. Safaris can be customized from half a day to a full day both in the morning and in the evening.

Mineriya Jeep Safari nature lovers often see numerous Sri Lankan elephants gathering around a grass field on the edge of a reservoir during the dry season. In addition, there are two endemic species of Sri Lanka, large herbivorous mammals such as Sri Lankan sambar deer and Sri Lankan leopard deer, and endangered species such as Sri Lankan leopard and Sri Lankan leopard, and thin gray caterpillars. The recommended start and end times for the Mineriya Jeep Safari are from 5:30 am to 8:30 am, or from 3 pm to 6 pm.

3 - Udawalawe National Park

Take a tour of Udawalawa National Park, one of Sri Lanka’s largest wildlife sanctuaries. Udawalawa is an elephant house. As seen in most parks, Udawalawa has a population of about 500. About 4hours drive from Colombo. As this is a private tour, you have plenty of time to find elephants, buffaloes, foxes, leopards, and other wildlife from the comfort of a rugged 4×4 ride. Many trees in the center of the park died during the monsoon floods, leaving few forests to obstruct the landscape. Udawalawa is known for its large population of Asian elephants, with as many as 100 herds. Other animals in the park include jungle cats, fish cats, grey tabby cats, crested mackerel, foxes, marsupials, mongooses, jackals, wild boars, and buffalo.

Udawalawe Sanctuary is also known as a bird-watching spot in Sri Lanka. Bird lovers will have a great opportunity to see birds of many different species, including endemic and migrant species. Birds in Udawalawa National Park include endemic birds such as Sri Lankan tracked birds, Sri Lankan squirrels, Sri Lankan gray sycamore, and Brown-capped chatter. Various waterfowl such as Ormoran, Spot-billed Pelican, Asian Openbill, Black-headed Ibis, Spoonbill, etc. gather in the reservoir.

4 - Bundala National Park

Bundara National Park is a winter resort for migratory birds from all over the world. The national park is home to 197 species of birds. Especially the flamingos that gather here in large groups. In 2005, Bundara National Park was designated by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve, making it the fourth Biosphere Reserve in Sri Lanka.

Animals you can spot: elephants, whistling duck, Indian cormorant, large water birds, grey heron, black-headed ibis, Eurasian spoonbill, Asian openbill, painted stork, Black-necked stork, leopards, wild boar

5 - Gal Oya National Park

Founded in 1954, Gal Oya National Park is the main catchment area of Senanayake Samdraya, Sri Lanka’s largest reservoir. The reservoir was built as part of the Gal Oya Development Project by constructing a dam in Gal Oya, Injiniyagara, in 1950. Gal Oya covers a large area of 314 km from Colombo and is abundant as an elephant sanctuary.

Animals you can spot: Sri Lankan elephant, axis deer, muntjac, water buffalo, Sri Lankan sambar deer, leopard, toque monkey, and wild boar. The park also has reptiles such as mugger crocodile and star tortoise and a number of bird species.
